Dr J Bryson Hamilton Long Service Award

Dr J Bryson Hamilton Long Service Award

Recently at Kirn and Sandbank Parish Church Dr. J. Bryson Hamilton received a long service certificate signed by the Moderator of the Church of Scotland in recognition of over 50 years of loyal service to the Church. His pathway started in 1968 when he was invited to join the Congregational Board of St Margaret’s Church by Reverend J. Lindsay Guthrie.  Bryson was assigned an Elder’s district around Hunter Street where he would remain an Elder for more than 50 years. He then became involved with the Sunday School, as a teacher and pianist, after the Union with St. Andrew’s Church. The Reverend Tom Girdwood asked Bryson to take on the Sunday School Superintendent role and, along with the late Moira Taylor, did this for over ten years. Over 100 children attended Sunday School regularly. He led many ecumenical services for all the Sunday Schools in the local area and sometimes with the DGS school orchestra. On occasion, Bryson would lead church services and evening songs of praise in Kirn and Sandbank Church. The certificate was just reward for a man who gave a huge commitment to Kirn and Sandbank Church and community and was an inspiration and friend to those around him.  “
